Cancer Care Services
Education
The more you know about your cancer, the better able you are to battle it. Throughout your treatment, our staff will teach you and your family about all aspects of your cancer, your diagnosis and your treatment. With this information, you can take better control of your disease. The most important thing to remember is there are no unreasonable questions. If you are curious about something, or we haven't explained a procedure to your satisfaction, please let us know. We will also work hard to tailor your education to the specific needs of you and your family.
Certified Nurses
Our certified oncology nurses are highly trained registered nurses dedicated to providing responsive and compassionate care. In addition to their clinical expertise in managing side effects, administering chemotherapy drugs and assessing patients, our nurses provide both patient and family education.
Board Certified Radiation Therapists/Dosimetrist
Our board certified radiation therapists and our board certified dosimetrist are trained to deliver the proper dose of radiation for your treatment.
Dietary and Nutrition
Eating the right kinds of foods is an important part of your cancer treatment in helping you feel better and stay stronger. Our staff will monitor your nutritional status and work to minimize any changes in your diet or appetite. If changes occur, a registered dietician will meet with you to identify your nutritional needs and map out a plan to lessen treatment side effects.
Spiritual Care
Our center strives to improve your physical and mental health. But we also understand the importance of spiritual health, which is why St. James Healthcare has a Spiritual Care Department staffed by professional chaplains. If you would like to visit with our chaplains, please let your nurse know.
Lodging
The Paul Clark Home/McDonald’s Family Place offers a home away from home for patients and loved ones. Just four blocks west of St. James Healthcare, the home offers kitchen and laundry facilities, TV room, children's play room, sun room, comfortable beds in private rooms and a listening, caring staff, for just $8.00 per night per room. Ask the staff for a referral, or call 782-0353 for information.
Transportation
The Federal Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) requires Para transit services to be made available for those whose disability prevents them from using the Transit System's regular fixed-route bus service. The Butte-Silver Bow Transit System implemented the Para transit service on May 1, 1993. Para transit services are offered on Monday through Friday from 8 am to 6 pm. To get more information on this service, please check with the Cancer Care staff.
Cosmetology
If you suffer temporary or permanent hair loss, our staff can help you obtain special hair pieces, wigs, hats, turbans and baseball caps, which will make you feel more comfortable.
Case Management
The Case Management staff can help you and your family adjust to living with cancer. With their help, you’ll have access to financial counseling and assistance programs, home health services, home medical equipment, transportation, housing and various community resources. Our staff is there to provide support and counseling and to help you access community resources.
Comfort Measures
We take extensive precautions to make your cancer treatment as comfortable as possible. However, you may experience side effects from your care, such as fatigue or nausea. It's also common for patients to suffer bouts of sadness. Your physician and oncology nurse will discuss these possible side effects with you and how to minimize them. As well, we can help you when you’re not at the cancer center in managing possible cancer pain and the emotions that follow.
Medical Library
If you need more information about your or your family member's medical condition, St. James Healthcare's Medical Librarian will provide this information. All requests are confidential and most information is free, if not, you will be asked prior to purchasing any information.
